Remembering Dads

Today is the 12th anniversary of the death of my father. A good monastic friend’s father also died on this day. I’d like to record a video in remembrance since I’m close to where my dad is buried, and my mother too. As I said in a vid close to the New Year, remembering our parents, appreciating their place in our lives, and expressing our gratitude for the life and nurture they provide is no small thing. It’s a good thing. What ever our up-bring we can, at the very least, show gratitude for the opportunity to live a good and beneficial life now. And a huge bow to those who find it near impossible to connect with these words. I am so sorry.

In a post called Two Weddings and A Memorial there is a paragraph describing the extraordinary circumstances surrounding my dads death.

  1. Yes. They do have a very particular place in our history.
I speak for myself in relation to my own children but suspect that for most of us, our conception took place with so little understanding about what being a mum or dad to this particular person might mean, at all the twists and turns at different life stages and the wonder of this unique life journey which is being given the green light. It is remarkable, and a testament to our species, that it works in it’s higgledy piggledy way, to create beings with vision, hope and compassion, even those who have little post birth experience to be grateful for. And some of that latter group provide the rest of us with the most important life lessons and the inspiration to use them.

  2. Thank you so much for your comment. I especially appreciate your last sentence since it echoes my feeling and experience.
