Remembering the Power of Respect

As they contemplated in this manner, the old monks began to treat each other with extraordinary respect on the off chance that one among them might be the Messiah. And on the off off chance that each monk himself might be the Messiah, they began to treat themselves with extraordinary respect.

And respect extends to all that we encounter making our land the land of the Buddhas and Ancestors. A bow to Angie for this story from the Jewish tradition.

  1. Yes, thanks Angie for pointing us to that wonderful story.

It reminds me of an old Zen story as well which helps me when I am alone or with others, that goes something like this:

When asked what is the best way to be, the Master replied: “When you are in the presence of a highly respected guest, act like you are alone. When you are alone, ask like you are in the presence of a highly respected guest.”

    Best wishes, Jim
