The Singing will Never Be Done

Everyone Sang
Siegfried Sassoon – 1886-1967

Everyone suddenly burst out singing;
And I was filled with such delight
As prisoned birds must find in freedom
Winging wildly across the white
Orchards and dark-green fields; on; on; and out of sight.

Everyone’s voice was suddenly lifted,
And beauty came like the setting sun.
My heart was shaken with tears and horror
Drifted away … O but every one
Was a bird; and the song was wordless;
the singing will never be done.

This is apt for our times. Thanks to Mark for sending me this link.

  1. Beautiful! Thank you for this, Rev Mugo, and for all your postings. I especially appreciate them at this time. I came home from work, terribly stressed—I work in a small grocery store and we have a lot of additional tasks regarding cleaning and extra hygiene procedures. Customers are stressed as well. A customer asked me to wash my hands after I had just finished washing them. So I did—-the customer’s comfort is very important to us. However, I left in a bit of a huff and upon returning, I felt a need to explain to the customer why I had left in such a huff. She told me that she thought I had touched my face. Possible? Of course. Anyway, I felt I had been ungracious and that I had amplified an already stressful situation.
    After arriving home after work I decided to go for a walk along the beach on Dallas Road. It being a beautiful evening, people were out and about with their families, doing what is good to do—walking out in the fresh air. And, here and there were people in small groups drumming, playing instruments and singing. There was such healing in experiencing this most wonderful evening filled with the sounds of the ocean and people out enjoying themselves. My stress levels dropped and I can now retire for the evening and enjoy what is left of today. With bows, Claudia

    1. Dear Claudia, How very good to hear from you and thank you for leaving this comment. I’ve been pulled up for not washing my hands and I must say I didn’t feel too good about that. Even though it was good in the circumstance to be reminded. Thank you for the image of the beach, I probably walked there at some point. My love to you and to Canada and to Victoria. I’m happy where I am doing what I am doing and I do hope it is the same for you.
