Why Shout?

A Buddha asked his disciples, ‘Why do we shout in anger?
Why do people shout at each other when they are upset?’

Disciples thought for a while, one of them said, ‘Because we lose our calm, we shout for that.’

‘But, why to shout when the other person is just next to you?’ asked the Buddha.
‘Isn’t it possible to speak to him or her with a soft voice?
Why do you shout at a person when you’re angry?’

The answer can be found here on Beyond The Opposites blog.

  1. Off-topic, but having just returned from the North, I hope you’re surviving the storms. The Glasgow trains were terminating at Preston, and before leaving London, the train manager repeatedly stressed that there was no transport north of Carlisle.
    Hope you’re safe.

  2. Thanks Walter for asking after me. So far so good here in the wilds of northern England. I can well imagine the trains being terminated at Preston. I was out on the roads these past few days however thankfully nothing serious happened where I’ve been.

  3. I copied and emailed the full version of this to a number of friends. It was much appreciated – and obviously made quite an impact on – the few who replied. Thanks to the source from which it came – and to all the folk who passed it on !
